I recently visited CA and have never been south of LA so this time I ventured south?. First Stop.. Glen Eden, Corona. I?ve not done many resorts, but I have to say that not only is the setting lovely, so are the people I?ve met. I spent three weekdays and a weekend there. I would say the mean age is about 50ish, so if you are a single looking to meet others, you better go on the weekend. I for one have always found you get what you put forth. I?m not a shy individual so I made a lot of friends. A simple hello or good morning would most times yield a conversation. I stayed at one of the trailers on site for two nights so I was able to check out the nightlife in addition to just being lazy around the pool and working on my tan. After all, I was on vacation? lol I found the grounds to be clean, garbage cans everywhere (both trash and recycle); the public showers and bathrooms were many and very well maintained and clean. If you want to be busy there are many different activities you can participate in, karaoke (sp?), tennis, volleyball (both water and land), pool tables, dances (both DJ and band). The caf? had good food with reasonable prices, limited hours, but open everyday for lunch, some mornings and dinners. You can pack a cooler and sit at one of the tables and enjoy your own food if you like also. There are many tables available to sit and read, eat, or converse. As the sun goes down and it gets cooler, the hot tub gets busier. The conversation is buzzing around the hot tub, had some good conversations there, and there were the quiet times to just soak and enjoy the heat on those sore muscles or feet. Oh, yes? there is also an exercise room, arts and crafts studio, and library, didn?t check them out. Two lovely cactus gardens and a peaceful chapel area up, up, up on the hill.

The second resort I checked out was DeAnza Springs in Jacumba; it was a last minute addition. We were going to go to Palm Springs, but at the last minute decided to go further south as we were going to San Diego Zoo the next day. I must say that I wish it would have been a planned visit now as I have met a few people on line that list this as their home club and perhaps we could have gotten together. I did not realize how remote it was/is and that there is no cell service if you have Verizon? lol BUT?.What an incredible ride down there and the scenery, well what can be said other than breath taking! It?s difficult to give a good review. A few things I can say is, first if you are going during the week? Bring your own party (people and food). The nearest town?? I don?t really know, but the gas station down the road did have some necessities. No marshmallows or graham crackers though if you are having a craving for samores? lol We had brought a cooler with food so didn?t really need much, but did pick up some firewood and had a wonderful fire in the pit in the evening and enjoyed the stared. Wow, no light pollution, what a sight, the stars were in abundance and bright! It is beautiful, restful, and peaceful, but not many people during the week there. It?s large so I guess everyone that lives there enjoys their own space. Sandy in the office is very nice and helpful. When we got there and found the outdoor pool to be covered had the men uncover it for us. I?m not sure how long it had been covered, but it was not maintained before it had been covered and therefore had leaves and some dirt on the bottom. The two guys I met in the hot tub were very nice they both lived on the property and were very friendly. I can see this resort for those who are very creative, just looking to get their juices flowing or complete or create some masterpiece, or those looking to get away from the rat race for a while. I'm not sure what is done when it is very busy there, it seems a bit small for a large size crowd. I found the only multiple showers to be by the indoor pool and only one other single shower in the bathroom by the pool. I though that there may be another in the common bathroom by the campgrounds, but it was only a toilet and sink area which I thought a bit odd. Perhaps there were others that I did not discover. I am very sorry I did not bring my sneakers, don?t forget them if you go. The hiking could have been a lot of fun? I did try a bit with my flip flops, but not exactly the proper equipment for the job. The little burrs got me every once in a while in the foot and at times even protruded through my little rubber soles, OUCH! Next time, I?ll plan better and ahead so I can meet some of my on-line chat buddies.

All and all, what I can say is WOW and Thank you to all those I?ve met in CA. It was an incredible trip and I can?t wait to come back?. Just for the record.. It was a little difficult coming home to mid 40?s when I was fortunate to spend the week in paradise and 90 degree weather. If anyone gets out to the East Coast and is planning on going to Gunnison Beach in New Jersey, contact me (i2gobare) and I?ll show you my beach. We don?t have many resorts here and we are limited in our enjoyment of the outdoor season, but I?m sure you will enjoy the Atlantic Ocean and our clothing optional (legal) beach. Until next time?.
